The Challenge
A travel manager at a European retailer was required to report on savings achieved, both within and on a year-on-year basis. The calculation used was never static, was often picked apart and subject to extreme study by colleagues and fundamentally never managed to capture the value added by the travel team.
The Solution
PredictX was deployed and along with it, our Fares and Rate Drivers Analyser. This uses logistic regression models that are run over the entirety of the travel data to unpack what the relationship really is between specific dimensions in the data and specific outcomes. The analyser then displays the movement in unit price and the level of contribution that both behavioural and non-behavioural elements had towards the outcome. This renders the contribution of both factor types immediately visible.
Beyond this, marketplace information is brought in for many locations, so that movements in the baseline are immediately visible and can be accounted for when viewing the changes in spend activity.
The Impact
The impact of this deployment meant that:
- Conversations between the travel team and their business partners improved.
- Business stakeholders were able to prove that travel costs legitimately rise due to increased activity.
- The travel team was able to show their savings contributions.
