The Challenge

A global Fast Moving Consumer Goods business was unable to get a firm grasp of what it really spent on travel and expense activities, and how that broke down at a more detailed level. Numbers for total spend were available from Finance, but existed purely at a high-level and did not match those available from travel agencies, corporate card providers, nor the company’s expenses system.  This left the company without the critical information needed to manage both travel spend and other types running through the expenses system as strategic categories, leaving value unexecuted. 

The Solution 

PredictX deployed its Employee Generated Spend (EGS) suite of tools on the data, focusing initially on Trip Builder and Expense re-categorisation tools. The first of these ingests all data sources, from TMC, through credit card and expenses systems, aligning the data from each source into a consolidated trip record. This then deduplicates and links between sources.

The Impact

The implementation of EGS meant that the company could:

  • Identify leakage from the TMC program.
  • Identify associated ancillary costs for flights and hotels.
  • Compare booked and paid values.
  • View its activity in both the travel and expense spheres.
  • Respond to large employee-driven purchases of IT and other home office equipment through the expense system.
